Library of Tibetan Works and Archives is located at McLeodganj town of Dharamsala, in Himachal Pradesh. It was established by the 14th Dalai Lama and serves as a foundation to preserve and promote Tibetan culture. It owns more than 80,000 Tibetan artefacts, such as statues, Tibetan thangkas, miniature paintings, great books, documents, photographs and old manuscripts on display. 

It is housed in the building structured and designed in Tibetan style of architectural, LTWA was initiated on 11th June 1970.

It is settled within the premises of the Tibetan Government in exile, permit for this home at Dharamsala was given by Pandit. Jawahar Lal Nehru. The LTWA library was inaugurated on 1st November 1971 and today, it serves as a prominent education centre for Tibetan culture and language in Himachal Pradesh. 

LTWA being the repository of the endangered Tibetan culture works on a mission to preserve, protect and promote it. It has been working for more than thirty years now in this mission and still feels the need to do much more. 

LTWA is an all-embracing cultural resource centre that promotes a research-oriented environment and exchange of knowledge between scholars and students. Its objectives involve acquiring and conserving Tibetan books, artefacts, manuscripts and artworks and making them accessible for reference works in Tibetan and foreign languages in study spaces within the Library. 

LTWA employs itself in the gathering of bibliographies and documentation of library holdings and the literature associated with them.

Library of Tibetan Works and Archives also publishes books and manuscripts that support study and research of ancient, traditional and modern Tibetan language, arts and skills. 

Various programs are organized here to teach people in 'thangka' painting and woodcarving. Library of Tibetan Works and Archives works in tight collaboration with the Central Institute for Higher Tibetan Studies at Sarnath and the Department of Religion and Culture of the Central Tibetan Administration.

HOW TO REACH THE LIBRARY OF TIBETAN WORKS AND ARCHIVES:

Library of Tibetan Works and Archives(LTWA) is located at Gangchen Kyishong, in Dharamshala, state of Himachal Pradesh. 

Gaggal Airport is the nearest airport to Dharamshala and is located about 13 km away from the airport, there are many taxis available at the airport. Enough taxis are available from Pathankot railway station for Dharamshala or it takes around 3 hours to reach Dharamshala. 

The drive from Delhi via Chandigarh, Kiratpur should take around 13 hours approximately. From Delhi and Shimla, many luxury buses are available to Dharamshala.
